Enterprise

Hosting for mission-critical sites

Managed UK hosting for the site your business depends on: a high-availability database, a written service level agreement, dedicated resources and a named contact who knows your account. Built and run by our own engineers.

A managed contract from £499.99 a month, sized to what you run. For one serious site you can also start on Solo HA at £99 a month.

What an Enterprise contract includes

One site, run like it is the only one that matters. Here is what sits behind that.

A service level agreement in writing

A 99.99% availability target with service credits, agreed with you in your contract, alongside the support and response terms we set together.

A database built to stay up

A live standby copy of your database on a second machine, with automatic failover if the main one ever fails. Your site repoints itself with nothing for you to do.

A named contact, not a queue

A named support contact who knows your account, and assisted migrations run personally by our own engineers.

Resources sized to your workload

Memory and processing power sized to what your site actually does, on UK infrastructure we own and run. Heavy accounts go on our strongest hardware.

High availability

A database with a standby copy, ready to take over

Add high availability to your database and we keep a live standby copy on a second machine, kept in step with your main database as you work.

  • If the main database fails and stays down, your site switches to the standby automatically, usually within one to three minutes, and repoints itself with nothing for you to do.
  • Planned maintenance switchovers are done with no lost data: we bring the standby fully in step before it takes over.
  • It is built in on our Solo HA plan, and can be added to any site as a monthly extra per site.

Resilience

Your site keeps serving, even on our worst day

The platform is built so that a problem on our side does not become a problem for your visitors.

  • Your site is served from more than one machine, so a single machine problem does not take everything down.
  • If our dashboard and control systems go down, your live site keeps serving visitors: the machines that serve your site handle traffic on their own.
  • If a machine has a problem, your site is moved to a healthy one automatically. There is a brief interruption while it moves, and then it is back.
  • Every site gets an automatic backup every night, kept for the last 7 days, and each backup is checked every night for completeness and corruption.
  • You can set up monitoring that checks your site as often as every minute and alerts you the moment it stops responding, by email, Slack or webhook.
How monitoring works
Traffic spikes

Ready for a rush of traffic

A busy day, a campaign, or a flood of automated traffic should not decide whether your site stays up.

  • A firewall and bot filter sit in front of every site. Floods and bad bots are rate-limited or challenged by address, country or network before they reach you, so your site spends its resources on real visitors.
  • Each site runs in its own isolated container with a firm memory ceiling, so a busy neighbour is stopped at its own limit and cannot eat into the memory your site needs.
  • Each site has a hard cap on the processes and files it can open, so one site under attack cannot exhaust the machine and drag down the rest.
  • If you come under attack, we can raise your protection and block specific addresses, countries or networks for your site.

Security

ScaleShield checks every request

ScaleShield is our own security layer that filters traffic before it reaches your site. It is on from day one, with no plugin to install.

  • A web application firewall inspects every request and blocks common attacks: SQL injection, cross-site scripting, remote code execution and directory traversal.
  • Bad bots and automated abuse are filtered out. Suspicious visitors are made to prove they are real before they can reach your site.
  • Rate limiting caps how many requests a single visitor, country or network can make, so a flood from one source is throttled automatically.
  • Allow and block lists and per-site rules are managed for you by our team and tuned to your site. A free SSL certificate is issued and renewed automatically.

Performance

Caching set up and tuned for your site

We run several layers of caching so pages load quickly and lean less on your database, and we tune them to what your site does.

  • Your site keeps its most-used data in fast memory with an object cache, so pages assemble quicker and hit the database less.
  • Your code is pre-compiled and held ready in memory, so it is not re-read and re-parsed on every visit.
  • Images, stylesheets, scripts and fonts are served with long browser-cache instructions, so returning visitors reload far less.
  • For the busiest sites we can turn on full-page caching at our security layer, so finished pages are served straight to visitors without waiting on the site each time.

Your SLA

A service level agreement, in writing

We commit to 99.99% availability. On an Enterprise contract we put that in writing: an agreed availability target with service credits, set in your contract, alongside the support and response terms we agree with you.

We monitor continuously and publish incidents on a live status page while they are happening. We do not average the bad days away.

Enterprise is a fixed monthly price set by your contract: the price you agree is the price you pay, with no usage-based charges added on top.

On our self-serve plans the commitment is 99.99% availability, backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee rather than a credit scheme.

Tell us what you need to keep online

Send us your site and roughly what it runs. We will size a plan, put the numbers and the SLA in writing, and hold the price for the term.
